Mill Creek Monitoring Project
In
May 2007, the Friends of the Sauk River sponsored a
monitoring project near Mill Creek in Rockville.
Working with the Sauk River Watershed District,
the group organized volunteers to sample Mill Creek
and collect data. The project was funded by the
Friends of the Sauk River through their Healthy
Lakes and Rivers Program grant.
Annual Membership Meeting
On September 15, 2007, the Friends of the Sauk River
held its second annual membership meeting. The meeting
was held at Sauk River Park in Melrose, MN.
Approximately 25 members attended. A new Board of
Directors was established, as well as officers of the
Board. During the meeting a presentation was made by
Tryg
Hanson from the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources regarding the status of the Sauk River’s state
canoe route designation. Adam Hjlem from the Sauk River
Watershed District gave an update on the Mill Creek
monitoring project. Bob Bjork reported on the Friends of
the Sauk River's activities in area water festivals.
Mitch Bender discussed St. Cloud State University
student research on the Sauk River. Joe Storlien
revealed plans for a river clean up day. Gene Waldorf
discussed plans of the group to apply for 501c3 status.
